Improving Germination Rate of Coastal Glehnia by Cold Stratification and Pericarp Removal

چکیده

The medicinal plant, coastal glehnia (Glehnia littoralis F. Schmidt ex Miq.), belongs to the Apiaceae, which is known exhibit morpho-physiological seed dormancy (MPD). In this study, we aimed determine type of along with conditions for breaking dormancy, and how increase its germination rate mass production. Initially, seeds had undeveloped embryos, gradually developed following cold (5 °C) stratification over eight weeks. embryo (E:S) ratio increased 66.7%, confirming that MPD type. Coastal pericarp did not show inhibited water uptake, inhibitory chemicals were detected. However, removal improved final percentage, speed, T50 compared those at 20 °C, showed highest value other temperature treatments. Thus, 5 °C weeks removing germinating maintained efficient ways break improve production glehnia.

Effects of cold stratification on germination rate and percentage of caper (Capparis ovata Desf.) seeds.

Caper is an important plant because of its high adaptability to marginal agriculture fields that are not suitable for agricultural crops. Different parts of caper such as roots, fruits, flowers and buds can be used to increase the inhabitant's income. The goal of this research is to determine germination rate and percentage of caper according to different duration of cold stratification (10, 20...

Effect of Seed Maturity and Dormancy Breakage on Improvement of Seed Germination in Tilia rubra subsp. caucasica form Angulata

This research was carried out with the aim of dormancy breakage and seed germination improvement in mature and immature seeds of T. rubra subsp. caucasica form angulata. The seeds were collected from middle altitude (500 a.s.l.) forests of Chamestan, north of Iran. Mature and immature seeds with pericarp were treated as 1) cold stratification (without pretreatment), 2) imbibed with NaOH (30%)+c...

Dormancy and germination response of Galbanum seeds (Ferula gummosa) under different hormonal pre-treatments and cold stratification

Extended Abstract Introduction: Galbanum is one of the most important native medicinal plants in Iran, and nowadays the use of its products and derivatives has become widespread in various industries. Thus, the excessive harvest of this species within its natural habitats has increased. Therefore, the species is enlisted as prone to extinction. Due to the lack of information about germination ...

Correction: Incorporating Cache Management Behavior into Seed Dispersal: The Effect of Pericarp Removal on Acorn Germination

Selecting seeds for long-term storage is a key factor for food hoarding animals. Siberian chipmunks (Tamias sibiricus) remove the pericarp and scatter hoard sound acorns of Quercus mongolica over those that are insect-infested to maximize returns from caches. We have no knowledge of whether these chipmunks remove the pericarp from acorns of other species of oaks and if this behavior benefits se...
